NASA, Google Maps solar eclipse mashup

NASA's Sun-Earth Connection Education Forum has created a Google Maps integration to prepare the world for viewing the solar eclipse set to happen today across the planet. The Forum's goal is "to increase science literacy and focus attention on the active Sun and its effects on Earth." The map, along with news reports, claims that best viewing will be in Spain and Portugal.



Description: The following dynamic map shows the path of the solar eclipse across Earth's surface. The northern and southern limits of the annular eclipse path are plotted in blue while the central line is yellow. The four-way toggle arrows (upper left corner) are used for navigating around the map. The zoom bar (left edge) is used to change the magnification or map scale. The three buttons (top right) turn on either a map view, a satellite view or a hybrid map/satellite view. More detailed instructions appear below the map.
