BYO GMap

GoBYO

In these cash strapped times one of the best ways to save money when eating out is to choose a Bring Your Own restaurant. GoBYO has a comprehensive database of restaurants that allow you to bring your own bottle of wine.

It is possible to search the GoBYO listings by restaurant name or search within a selected distance from a particular address. It is also possible to search by type of cuisine. Each restaurant displays a button for 'More Info, Maps & Reviews'.

The map view uses Google Maps to display the location of the restaurant and to show the number of stars the restaurant has based on Yelp reviews. Details of the restaurant, including any corkage fees and price range of the restaurant, are given in the map sidebar.

Searching for a Merlot on Google Maps

Grappos.com

Grappos.com is an online store locator for wine. The site has a huge database of wines from wineries, distributors and retailers which means they are able to tell you which local store is stocking the wine that you want.

To search for a particular type of wine you just need to enter the name of the wine and your location and Grappos.com will show you all the stores selling that wine on a Google Map. You can even create a link to any search by executing a search and clicking on "Create Link". This service is already being used by wineries as a product locator on their own sites.

Grappos.com is also about to launch a blog that will feature user reviews. There is an iPhone application in the pipeline that should be available soon.

Canada Google Maps Mashup Roundup (Jan.30/08)

Century 21 launches Google Maps Mashup in Canada:

Century 21 Canada's new website is a complete Google Maps mashup. It makes Google Maps the primary browsing experience as you search for listings or agents at a provincial, regional or city/town level. The single page application allows you to easily filter location, price and other specs without page reloads and combination of the on map info-windows and sidebar present a LOT of information about the agent or a listing. This is a great new national real estate mashup that should definitely be used if you're house hunting anywhere in Canada! (Check other Canadian real estate mashups by clicking the "Canada" label below!)

Wineries of Ontario Mashup:

Anton Umnikov's new wine mashup is helping to get the word out about the world's best kept wine region secret: Ontario, Canada! The Niagara region of Ontario is not known only for one of the wonders of the world, but it's also home to many world class wineries. Actor Dan Aykroyd is among many who have recently invested millions in the region. Take a look at this helpful mashup to help you plan a wine tour for your next visit to Toronto, Ottawa or Niagara Falls! (More worldwide wine mashups found here!)

Canada City Count: 3!
Since Google Transit is now an integrated part of Google Maps, this means that when you search for Driving Directions in any of these cities on Google Maps you will also be presented with transit directions as an option!

9 new US Google Maps mashups and tools!

MoreMap is a mega maps mashup! - Lets you perform Package Tracking, check Weather, track Earthquakes, view Traffic, find Movies, Banks, and Radio Stations on a Google Map. There are a few other cool features from within the UI including printing and map enlargement. I've been in touch with Adam Richman for several months as he has been hard at work creating the site and I know a lot of time has gone into making this a good user experience. Nice work Adam! (This would make a great Mapplet!)

Gas-Cost Map Tool - Enter your car's gas mileage and where you are going and it gives your gas cost and directions, using the latest gasoline prices... on a Google Map! (This would make a great Mapplet!)

New Luxury Real Estate Mashups:
LuxurySiliconValley.com
LuxuryMonterey.com
LuxuryNorthBay.com
From the creator of these sites: "The goal of the application is to provide easy access to the limited inventory of luxury properties in a specific market (vs. our standard map-based MLS search product which gives access to all for sale properties) with intuitive, classy user interface. Property hotspots can be clicked-through to the respective brokerage's site for complete details. The maps are full screen, kiosk ready, and utilize social bookmarking, viral marketing via email tools and an industry unique feature of RSS notification of just listed properties in a given map extent. While others, like Trulia provide RSS feeds of a new listings per city, I am not aware of any other real estate site, which provides RSS feed of matching properties within a specific map boundary."
