Brazillian Real-Estate on Google Maps

These days I rarely get excited by real-estate maps but I do love Epungo. This Brazilian real-estate map truly is a thing of beauty.

The map includes a radial and polygon search tool that allows the user to closely define the area that they wish to search for properties. The search results can also be refined by using the slide controls to define the price, number of rooms and the floor area.

None of these features are exactly new to real-estate maps but Epungo has brought them together in one gorgeous package. I also really like the step-by-step walk-through of the search tools that the site offers when you first load the map.

Foreclosure for Google Maps Real Estate

Google Maps users in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Japan until now have been able to search for real estate directly on Google Maps. However Google today announced that they are removing real estate results from Google Maps.

The search giant gives two main reasons behind the removal, low usage and the impending retirement of the Google Base API. Real estate will be discontinued on Google Maps on February 10, 2011.

Nice Real Estate Google Maps Mashup

Itssold.ca

Back in April 2005 Paul Rademacher created the first Google Maps and real-estate mashup, HousingMaps. Itssold.ca provides a nice comparison to Paul's original real-estate map, showing how things have developed in the last five years.

Housing Maps pulled in data from Craigslist and allowed users to filter results by property prices. Itssold.ca has far more extensive filtering of your house requirements. The site uses a slide-bar to allow users to define the range of price that they are interested in. It also includes slide-bars to define the number of bedrooms, the number of bathrooms, the property size and the year built.

The information windows on Itssold.ca also shows how Google Maps mashups have developed in the last five years. Whereas HousingMaps simply included text links, Itssold.ca contains property details and photographs. Clicking on the 'more photos' link loads a photo slideshow in place of the map.

Itssold.ca also dynamically loads results directly on the Google Map. If you pan the map around map markers load to reflect your current map view. The only real omission from the site is the option to view the properties with Street View.

The Toronto Star's Map of the Week

Toronto Real Estate Map

The Toronto Star's Map of the Week column has started a series of interactive Google Maps looking at house prices in the Greater Toronto Area. To start with they have produced a map that shows 86 real estate areas. They plan to add more complexity to the map as the series continues.

The Star's heat map shows resale prices in the 86 areas. The darker the blue of the area's polygon the larger the resale value.

The Toronto Star's Map of the Week column has been running for a few year's now. This great resource of maps of Toronto means that it is possible to compare the house prices in areas with a number of other local factors.

For example, it is possible to compare the Toronto Real Estate Map with some of the great crime maps produced by The Star or compare it to any of the maps in The Star's series of health maps.
