Mapping the aftermath of the Parkersburg tornado
(By the DesMoinesRegister.com):
Correction: Thanks to a reader who pointed out that Google Maps was not used for this mashup. I'm still a big fan of what has been done here, but I've removed the reference to Google Maps:
Here is a chilling look at the aftermath of a strong tornado that ripped through Parkersburg, Iowa on May 25, 2008. Lot lines reveal incredible before and after photos of houses, videos during and after the tornado, and gripping tales from Parkersburg residents captures the horrifying weather event that took place here. I strongly encourage you to take a look at what a great job The Des Moines Register did to pull this project together.

StormReportMap.com will help you track US storms:
With storm season now upon us, a long time Google Maps mashup has been given a fresh coat of paint to withstand whatever 2008 can throw at it! I first blogged about Anthony Petito's StormReportMap back when this blog was only 3 months old! He has dropped me a line to let visitors know that his mashup has recently been "completely revamped, updated and redesigned". His map mashes up reports from the National Weather Service (NWS), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) and the data is updated every 5 minutes. It's a great way to quickly track or reference storms for your area..
