More Crime on Google Maps

CrimeMapping

CrimeMapping stated aim is to help "law enforcement agencies throughout North America provide the public with valuable information about recent crime activity by neighbourhood." CrimeMapping currently has crime maps for five agencies in the US; Hernando County Sheriff, High Point Police Department, Duluth Police Department, Lincoln Police Department and the Oakland Police Department.

You can search the crimes in each area by type, location or time period. The crimes are represented on the map by fifteen different types of icons, each icon representing a different type of crime. Clicking on an icon reveals details about the date and time of the crime.

Banjax Crime Map

The Banjax Crime Map is a map of crime in Northern Ireland. The data for the map comes from the Northern Ireland Neighbourhood Information Service (NINIS). The Banjax Crime Map is in the form of a heat map, showing the density of crime for each ward in the province.

You can view a heat map of total offences for each year from 2004 to 2007 or different overlays for the twelve categories of crime that the NINIS uses. Beneath the map Banjax have provided the statistics for each crime category and information on whether there has been a rise or fall in this category of crime year on year.

Banjax say that this crime map project is the first of what they are hope are many similar applications that will 'give Belfast and Northern Ireland a better experience of the web and its potential'.

Crimeblips

The crime mapping application Crimeblips provides up-to-date crime statistics for neighbourhoods throughout Berlin. The application maps, visualizes, and analyses crime incidents, allowing users to identify crime hot spots, trends and general patterns. The occurrences, events and data are extracted from public press releases of the City of Berlin Police Department and Berlin Fire Department.

The application has been developed at the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern and they say that future versions will provide comparisons with incident descriptions in the media, published law enforcement agency data, schools and shopping centres, as well as other third party information including real estate prices and indicators.
