Mt. Everest Climbing Teams + Google Maps

Joost Schreve has created a great Google Maps mashup that combines blog posts, photos, topo mapping and locations of climbing teams on Mt Everest. A unique feature in this mashup that I haven't seen in very many others is the ability to fade the topographic map on top of the Google satellite imagery. This feature really allows you to get an idea of the topography on the snow covered satellite photograph. Map users can select waypoints on the various routes and filter the points by climbing team or specific date. The photos that are up for viewing are amazing!

Joost informs us that "the climbing season goes from the beginning of April through the end of May. Most of the teams plan to attempt the summit mid-May, and currently they are high on the mountain already. Most of the action will probably take place between now and May 20.
